Cegep: access to the job market or to university

Interested in studying in Québec?

More and more students from all over the world are continuing their studies at a cegep in Québec. Why?
  • To qualify to enter the job market or university;
  • To have a choice between technical programs, which train them for exciting jobs, and pre-university programs, to continue on to university. Both choices lead to an officially recognized diploma, the Diploma of College Studies (DCS);
  • To benefit from general courses common to both types of program, helping them to understand society and its development in a changing world;
  • And also to enjoy their stay at cegep by taking part in socio-cultural, sports and community activities during which they will build solid social ties.
Technical training: a wise choice for your future By opting for a technical program you will acquire:
  • A wealth of post-secondary knowledge;
  • Skills recognized in the job market;
  • And a very good chance at finding an interesting job.
Educational institutions in tune with the job market
Cegeps maintain close ties with companies and public institutions to better meet job market needs. Therefore, not only do they ensure upgrading and retraining of the labour force, they also offer training and technological support services to businesses. Moreover, they set up 42 technology transfer centres to carry out applied research to contribute to the development of key sectors in Québec’s economy. A presence in 50 countries

Apart from offering training stints abroad, many institutions have focused on policies and action plans aimed at internationalization. The international dimension is included in college programs so that students develop skills that will improve their employment chances anywhere in the world. In addition, cegeps are active in some 50 countries through many cooperation projects, especially in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe.
